About Us

Blu’s School of Dance has been established for over 30 years in Singleton. We offer a large range of styles for all ages and ability levels. We pride ourselves on teaching our students more than just high-quality dance. Our studio values are; Respect, Dedication, Passion and Friendship. We aim to emphasise and instil these values in every class. We offer exams through the Australian Teachers of Dance (ATOD) syllabus in Classical Ballet and Tap, as well as in-house assessments for all of our other styles to track and promote our student’s achievements. We hold an all-inclusive concert at the end of every year and also offer competition classes to students who want to take their dancing to the next level. Our building is equipped with two air conditioned studios with mirrors and dance bars, private bathrooms, two air conditioned waiting rooms with tea and coffee facilities and off street parking.

Dance Styles

Imagination

Our Imagination classes make the perfect starting point for your little mover. The class combines basic dance technique with co-ordination and musicality to give your little dance the best start. These classes are full of fun are are perfect for ages 2.5-4. These students get the chance to dance at our end of year concert and can receive a progress report and trophy at our presentation day. All classes are taught by caring and qualifed staff.

Ballet

Our ballet classes are run through the ATOD (Australian Teachers of Dance) Syllabus, this ensures correct and safe progression from ages 4 and above. Students are welcome to sit Ballet exam run by ATOD at our studio half way through the year. These exams are what allow students to progress into teachers as they get older. Our ballet classes spend the first half of the year working on exam exercises and learning a short routine. After exams students begin to work on their concert routine. Some of our higher ballet grades require two ballet classes a week if students are wanting to sit exams. All ballet classes are taught by qualified ballet teachers who have passed their Elementary ballet exam or higher.

Tap

Our Tap classes are also run through the ATOD Syllabus and follow the same yearly structure as our ballet classes. Our tap classes are perfect for students who like to make a lot of noise. All of our Tap classes are taught by qualified teachers who have passed their Elementary Tap exam or higher.

Jazz

Jazz is one of our most popular recreational classes at the studio. Jazz is all about having fun to upbeat and funky music.  Our Jazz classes focus on stretching and traveling skills from the corner as well as dance choreography. All our jazz classes get the opportunity to sit an in house assessment half way thought the year to track their progress. All Jazz classes get to perform in our end of your concert. All our jazz classes are taught by experienced and qualified staff.

Contemprary/Lyrical 

Our contemporary/lyrical classes are a lot softer than our jazz classes. Students in our Mini and Junior age group focus more on lyrical. Once you hit the intermediate age group students get to explore the abstract art of contemporary in contrast with lyrical movements. All our Contemporary/lyrical classes get the opportunity to sit an in house assessment half way thought the year to track their progress. All Contemporary/lyrical classes get to perform in our end of your concert. All our Contemporary/lyrical classes are taught by experienced and qualified staff.

Our contemporary/lyrical classes are a lot softer than our jazz classes. Students in our Mini and Junior age group focus more on lyrical. Once you hit the intermediate age group students get to explore the abstract art of contemporary in contrast with lyrical movements. All our Contemporary/lyrical classes get the opportunity to sit an in house assessment half way thought the year to track their progress. All Contemporary/lyrical classes get to perform in our end of your concert. All our Contemporary/lyrical classes are taught by experienced and qualified staff.

Acro

Acro mixes acrobatics with dance. Our acro classes are split from ability, not age. This ensures all our students learn the basic foundations of Acro skills in a safe manner. Students are able to go up class levels during term one and two while their skills are progressing. Our acro classes are taught using the Acrobatics Dance Association syllabus. We have a variety of equipment for our acro classes including an air track, gym mats and a wedge. All our teachers and assistant teachers are fully qualified in Acrobatics Dance.

All acro classes get a chance to complete an in-house assessment and perform at our end of year concert. All our teachers and assistant teachers are fully qualified in Acrobatics Dance.

Cheer

All our cheer classes are completely recreational with no competitions involved. Students learn basic jumps, tumbling and stunts in these classes. These classes are aligned with our acro levels and not by age. We have a variety of equipment for our cheer classes including an air track and gym mats. These cheer classes are all about having fun and are not suitable for students wishing to compete in All Star Cheerleading. All cheer classes get a chance to complete an in-house assessment and perform at our end of year concert.

Hip-Hop

Our Hip-Hop class is perfect for your little groover from age 7 to 12. This class teaches basic Hip-hop footwork and floor work, as well as dance choreography. This is an all-inclusive class that is full of fun. Our Hip-hop class gets a chance to complete an in-house assessment and perform at our end of year concert.

Eisteddfod Teams

Our eisteddfod teams are for the dedicated dancers who wish to take their dancing to the next level. In order to qualify for an eisteddfod team, you must complete at least one ballet AND attend one fundamentals class a week. Our eisteddfod teams get to travel around the Hunter and surrounding areas competing their routines. This is a fantastic experience for students who love to perform. In 2018 our eisteddfod teams received outstanding results at every eisteddfod.

Fundamentals 

Fundamentals 

Our fundamentals classes focus on strength, conditioning and technique. These classes are vital for dancers who wish to perform and complete exams. Our fundamentals classes use a mixture of strengthening exercises and drills from the 'Radar Technique' as well as exercises that focus on areas in need of improvement. Our fundamentals classes help all dancers be the best they can possibly be.

Special Needs

Our special needs classes give students with mental and physical disabilities the opportunity to enjoy dancing just like any other student, in a supportive and encouraging environment. It combines basic technique with music and fun routines. Our special needs students receive a report and trophy at our presentation day and get the opportunity to perform on stage at our end of year concert. Best of all this class is fully covered by the studio, so there is no cost associated for the family.
